Airbus Announces a Massive Commercial Plane Deal

Airbus has announced a massive commercial plane deal, and it’s the biggest the company has ever made. Airbus signed a deal to supply 430 jets for around $50 billion. In doing so, they outdid Boeing who previously held the record selling 40 planes worth $15.1 billion to Emirates.

The Airbus planes were bought by Indigo Partners, who have plans to use the planes for their low-cost airlines. Indigo owns Mexico’s Volaris, Hungary’s Wizz Air, Chile’s JetSmart, and Frontier Airlines in the U.S.

That number of planes is quite large. If one airline had that many in its own fleet it would be within the top ten as far as size goes. Makes one wonder what sort of expansion plans Indigo Partners might have for all of its budget airlines.

The Airbus sales chief John Leahy will soon be retiring, so it seems like he’s going out on a very high note.
